Here's the Goal I Have for This Substack
Help me reach it by Rosh HaShana
Hello: Today I don’t have a regular newsletter to share, though there are two wonderful clips for you below.
Rather, I want to share with you, my readers, that I have a goal for Translating Israel to reach 1000 subscribers by Rosh Hashanah.
Translating Israel is about sharing the truest voices of Israelis— voices of beauty, yearning and complexity that go far beyond the headlines—with as many people as possible who love Israel as you and I do.
In order to invest time reaching more people, starting immediately I will begin publishing one blog each week in place of two. I invest significant time into the creative process for each newsletter, and to truly achieve my goal of broad reach, I've realized that producing just one expanded newsletter each week will allow me the necessary time to market my Substack in ways I haven't been able to until now.
As of today, just a year after Translating Israel’s founding, I have reached 337 readers. So reaching 1000 in three months is a big goal— but one I believe I can reach!

Today, I share just two things that are not actually translations at all. The first is a woman whom I imagine you have probably seen as she is interviewed often, as she is here, in English. Rawan Osman is a Syrian-Lebanese woman who’s life journey has led her to be now in the process of converting to Judaism. Her story is powerful and it’s worth hearing more of it, but really I bring this clip as an introduction to the wordless clip that follows— a clip that shows the deep love Israelis have for IDF soldiers, soldiers who we really see as our own children.
In case this isn’t clear, I will point out what is clear to me (thought I don’t actually know this for a fact)— this man never met this soldier before this moment, but no matter, she’s like a granddaughter to him.
