Once the War Has Passed

A Song by Benai Barabi in translation

“Once the War has Passed” holds onto the knowing that this time period, too, will pass. As the longest war in Israel’s history since the War of Independence still rages— where we in Israel, and Jews across the globe, face incredible uncertainty about our future, while in our present we our soldiers still fight on the front, our citizens are still being held captive, and our neighbors are yet able to return home due to rocket fire and actual fires burning around their towns— this song is a prayer and an expression of hope.

English lyrics:
Once The War Has Passed
Benaia Barabi

And once the war has passed
We’ll come home
We’ll put away our gear
Talk to God as if He’s near

I won't ask you anything
About your time there
I'll just hug you very tight
Wordlessly

We’ll light together candles of yearning
How they destroyed our home
And burned our heart

And despite all the tears that we left there
You said you'll yet see
We’ll grow from the pain

Every tune will find within me grace
Every tear frees me from this space
In the dark nights we’ll say a prayer

From the narrow straits I called to God
Answer me, please, with a loving nod
In the dark nights every light will be a prayer

I’ll hold you in my arms
It’s ok to cry
About the burns and the scars that will remain forever ours

Yet I know the smile will come
We’ll see the light
And every black pigeon will turn to white

Every tune will find within me grace
Every tear frees me from this space
In the dark nights we’ll say a prayer

From the narrow straits I called to God
Answer me, please, with a loving nod
In the dark nights every light will be a prayer

Every tune will find within me grace
Every tear frees me from this space
In the dark nights we’ll say a prayer

From the narrow straits I called to God
Answer me, please, with a loving nod
In the dark nights every light will be a prayer
