All over Israel we see stickers. On bumpers, yes, but not only. We see them on classroom doors, on street posts, on electric boxes, and on my kids' bunk bed. They have faces of young soldiers, faces-it is immediately clear to all- of soldiers who have died in the war. Alongside these faces are quotes that reveal a wisdom so deep they make us lower our heads in humility: “Who were these souls we’ve lost?” Here I share some of this wisdom with you. The first is from my own nephew, Ephraim:
Sometimes we need to let go. Our energy depletes and we need to open up; to close the Gemara and look around us, to meet the World’s Creator on different horizons. A beautiful, breath-taking landscape renews the soul.
-Ephraim Jackman
From a moment of sadness we’ll emerge as big people, strengthened.
- Dolev Chaim Malca (and the sticker says: “the silly boy who became a hero”)
When you meet a big dilemma, think -
What will benefit the world the most?
-Nathanel (Nati) Eitan
A smile always has it’s place!
-Yonaton Elazari
You can be busy with yourself, or you can do something better.
-Dekel Suissa
The biggest trait a person can have is the ability to make another person happy.
-Shachar Fridman
A smile is our strength
This isn’t just a an empty saying!
- Oriya Ayimalk Goshen
Next week I will share some of the writings of these soldiers and others, writings too long for a sticker.
Shabbat Shalom.
