The Israeli soundtrack of songs from this war is incredibly long. Our musicians are a precious resource of both expressing our pain and of offering hope and comfort in a way I don’t think any other medium can.
I have tried to find a balance, in life, and in my translations, of engaging and feeling the pain, and striving, as Yuval Dayan says, to "take good care of my heart." I continue to fight to find the good- of which there is much- but it can, if we don't really try, be hard to see.
In Yuval’s own words: "Since the war started, it took some time till I began listening again to music. I didn't even think about releasing a song, but something in the meetings with you [her fans], wherever we met, made me realize that we as a society had rushed to eulogize the quintessentially good Israeliness, the endless togetherness, and I felt that this was my part in the campaign, to hear you and sing your stories."
I share here the link to my translation of Yuval’s song.*
*I share here only the link to my Youtube channel with the lyric video I created of this song in order to assure that any proceeds from the song remain with the artist where they belong. I hope it is easy for you to access. Please let me know if this is not so.
